Stay safe in all work situations

What is work safe access?

Work Safe Access was born out of necessity.  Literally.  Originally a division of Welcome Ramp Systems, a fabricator / installer of aluminum ADA ramp systems, Welcome Ramp Systems over a roughly two-decade span supplied and installed aluminum ADA access ramps to just about every school in Washington State.  They worked themselves out of customers.  The Phoenix rising from this is Work Safe Access, products identical to the Welcome Ramp Systems products, but repurposed to provide safe access to a myriad of work areas, from ground level to top of the tallest buildings in the Seattle skyline.   Work Safe Access products are engineered to meet the most stringent criteria, including OSHA, IBC, and ANSI guidelines.  Work Safe Access lives up to their mission statement: “You Need Access, We Deliver!”

A safe option for every situation

Ships ladders

A ships ladder provides access to higher levels where a vertical ladder may not provide the practical access needed on a day-to-day basis. Designed with deeper treads than a normal ladder, along with permanently mounted handrails on both sides, a ships ladder allows for a more normal posture when ascending or descending the ladder, providing a safer, more comfortable environment for the user.

Handrails

One key feature to the ships ladder is the permanently mounted handrails that extend well beyond the top of the ladder, so the user is able to easily utilize the handrails whether they’re ascending or descending.  This is especially important when accessing the ladder to / from a pitch roof that may create challenges to using a normal ladder.   In this case, the user is accessing another Work Safe Access product; an elevated walking surface that provides the user with safe access to all areas of the roof regardless of the weather.  The dimpled surface allows for drainage, alleviating water and or ice buildup on the walking surface.

Simple stairs

work safe access steps

A simple two tread stair that provides safe access to the roof via a raised doorway.  Prior to the installation of this stair, the user used a plethora of unsafe methods, including flimsy wood platforms, a bucket flipped upside down, or a folding chair – basically whatever was within reach in their time of need.  This stair alleviates the liability caused by using items not designed for the purpose, in this case, accessing the roof through this elevated doorway.

Parapet stepovers

A parapet stepover may sound benign at its surface, but when you really take a look at what their purpose is, and the measure of safety they actually provide, you’ll understand how important these safety measures truly are.  A parapet may only have a six-inch rise on one side, but the other side may be several feet – or higher.  Gaining access from one side to the other will likely create an unsafe environment, potentially leading to an accident and / or injury.   Alleviating that risk is the sole purpose of the parapet stepover.

Corner protectors

Corner protectors live up to their name.  In this case, this corner protector is reducing the potential for damage to the pipe from equipment transiting through the area that may inadvertently bump the yellow pipe.  The corner protector, when highlighted with Hi-Viz or reflective tape, can alert equipment operators to steer wide of this potential hazard.

Pipe stepovers

They may seem small, but their purpose is worthy.  Very similar to the parapet stepover, the pipe stepover provide safe trespass through an area like this where ground level piping would otherwise be a major hazard.

Standard permanent handrails

Standard handrails can provide not only fall protection, but also limit access to an area that can be extremely hazardous in their absence.  These handrails create a safety perimeter around these underground access points, which, when open, become a safety hazard for all who pass through the area.  These panels eliminate that hazard by creating full time access restrictions to the area.

Safe access to HVAC and other roof equipment

work safe access

Sometimes safe access becomes such a blind spot that no one thinks about the dangers of an area until someone new to the area realizes there is a very real danger involved.  Access to this rooftop HVAC unit on a downtown building is a good example.  For decades, access to these elevated doors was solely by leaning a step ladder against the wall, opening the door from the side and shimmying into the doorway.  Not only does this create a fairly dangerous situation, but it’s also a huge OSHA violation.  Installing Work Safe Access products eliminated the hazard, providing safe access to the HVAC units.

Single cables for safety harnesses

With the OSHA mandated ban on protective cages on permanently affixed ladders, OSHA has directed that a single cable attached to the top & bottom of the ladder be installed with the user wearing a full safety harness and a gravity actuated grab system for future fall protection.  Work Safe Access supplied the anchor points top & bottom for this ladder.  This is the new norm for ladder safety for the future.

How can EZ System Work Safe Access solutions work for you?

  • Cost effective

Work Safe Access products are not the least expensive option on the market. But, if longevity, ease of maintenance, and perpetual safe performance are the matrices you base your cost effectiveness on, the Work Safe Access products will be the hands down winner.

  • Easy Installation

A crew of two can install a very high percentage of projects in a single day. Naturally, more complex projects will take longer and with more staff. Work Safe Access products are designed to be installed easily and quickly, and without guesswork.

  • Durability

The anodized aluminum of the handrails, platform & ramp frames and legs will provide years of service. The ramp & deck treads are galvanized steel, providing surface protection from both the elements and daily use. The deck & ramp surfaces will discolor with time, but the durability remains. Welcome Ramp Systems has product that have been in place for close to two decades that are still in service. Depending on where you’re located, simply pressure washing the surfaces once or twice per year will be sufficient to extend the life of the product. Powder coating rails and frames can extend the life of the product as well

  • Easy to replace damaged components

Depending on the locating and extent of damage to your Work Safe Access product, replacing components should be an easy repair. Each component is a conglomerate of other components, designed to be easily disassembled and reassembled if needed.

  • Versatility

There is no ‘box’ when it comes to Work Safe Access products. The advent of Work Safe Access came from someone thinking outside the box and throwing the box away. As long as the need can be designed, engineered, cut, fabricated and installed, there are no roadblocks to the versatility of Work Safe Access products.
